Czech MEP Marketa Gregorova said that the EU could apply the “Belarusian precedent” to Georgia – not recognising the election results. The MEP is confident that if the opposition does not win, the parliamentary elections in Georgia will be rigged.
“If there is electoral fraud, we will unfortunately have to consider the case of Belarus. The European Union did not recognise Lukashenko President of Belarus, we support the opposition, that is Svetlana Tikhanovskaya“We have also imposed sanctions on Belarusian civil society financially and economically. Therefore, if the same thing happens in Georgia, then this will set a precedent.” -Gregorova is quoted by Georgian media.
The MEP described the latest measures of the ruling Georgian Dream as “a strategy to lose the elections”.
“I don’t know why the government is taking such steps… Maybe they think that Russia will win the war in the next few months and then they will be on the winning side, which, in my opinion, will not happen, we think. We cannot allow this, Ukraine must win,” – said Gregorova.
The MEP made her statement at the Tbilisi International Conference, a political forum that US organisations are hosting for the eighth time.
Georgian Dream has not participated in the conference for the third year.
