Eurobarometer: Passive Cypriots about the course of their country – they positively see the EU

Six out of ten citizens in Cyprus (62%) believe that things in their country are moving in the wrong direction, according to the published data of the Eurobarometer. Only 22% think that they move in the right direction, while the percentage of about 14% does not say one or the other.

In addition, 47% of Cypriots believe that in the European Union everything moves in the wrong direction. 33% see that they are moving in the right direction, and 14% do not say one or the other.

It is stagnation that characterizes their answers regarding their forecasts for the evolution of their living standards in the next five years. 40% say that the standard of life will not change, 25% see improvement, while 30% are pessimistic and evaluate that the VIA level will fall.

Positive picture for the EU

The image of Cypriot citizens for the EU is positive for 43% of respondents (much less than the average in European, which is 52%). 21% negative and neutral 35%.

In general, 59% expressed optimism in relation to the future EU (less than the average in European, which is 66%), while 39% express pessimism.

As for the image of the European Parliament, 34% see it positive (41% of the average in European), 17% negatively and neutrally 48%.

It is not surprising that 91% of the respondents in Cyprus wanted the European parliament to play a more important role. The average value in the EU in this answer is 62%limited.

The influence of the EU’s actions can be seen for 86% of Cyprus citizens, but only 36% believe that this influence is very positive.

Advantages of Cyprus entry into the EU

44% of Cyprus citizens are looking for the European parliament to prioritize in the world, which should protect human rights in the EU and all over the world.

The study of the Eurobarometer in Cyprus was conducted in the period from May 5 to May 22, 2025 with a personal interview in a sample of 501 citizens. All integrated interviews in the EU amounted to 26,410, and the data was suspended in accordance with the size of the population of each country.
