Azerbaijan’s main contribution to the fight against climate change will be its successful presidency of the COP29 conference.
Vopke Hukstra, Commissioner for Climate Protection of the European Union, told this to journalists, answering the question of the “Report”.
“The world needs strong leadership of the COP, and the role of the presidency here is extremely important. It should not only contribute to the process, but also be a leader. We are ready to help Azerbaijan successfully organize this conference.” said the European Commissioner.
He also noted that the European Union, for its part, considers it a priority to guarantee transparency and increase financing in the fight against climate change.
“Firstly, we are all interested in transparency, because otherwise we will not be able to evaluate and understand what countries are really doing. Secondly, we need to attract more funds, increase financing of the public and private sectors. The Union “The European Union will continue to do more than it is supposed to do, but other countries will also have to do it themselves, it is important that they do their part. There are countries that are capable of making such investments and they should take this responsibility.” the European Commissioner stressed.
