On Tuesday, DANA in the Valencian Community devastated everything, including the lives of more than 140 people (data update Thursday afternoon) – three more died in Castile-La Mancha and Andalusia, where temporary workers, notably in Cádiz and Malaga – and dozens of people are missing in the province of Valencia, in Letur (Albacete) and in Cuenca. It left in its wake flooding, considerable material and personal damage and devastating images throughout the region and in other communities. It is already one of the worst natural disasters in recent decades in Spain and the worst cold spell of the 21st century.
Tuesday at 12:20 p.m., the National Emergency Coordination Center alerted of a worrying increase in water flow. At 1:00 p.m., the president of the Valencian Generalitat, Carlos Mazón (PP), came out to say that there was no danger and that at 6:00 p.m. there would be no danger. DANA will have calmed down in Valencia. At that time, the universal flood had already broken out. Mazón never came out again. The alarm from the Civil Protection of Valencia, dependent on its government, went off at 8:12 p.m., when thousands of people were already trapped.
