On October 2, 1991, Kazakh Toktar Aubakirov, as part of the crew of the Soyuz TM-13 spacecraft, headed to the Mir orbital station, where he spent a week. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan.
During his stay at the station, Aubakirov conducted five scientific experiments.
“During the flight, sand storms in the Aral Sea were filmed and medical and biological research was carried out. Specialty foods and space biotechnology have come under close scrutiny. The behavior of molten metals under microgravity conditions was studied. “All collected samples returned to Earth, where they were carefully studied by scientists.” – says the department information.
Now Toktar Ongarbaevich Aubakirov is a doctor of technical sciences and a professor. He is the 72nd cosmonaut of the USSR, honored test pilot of the USSR, hero of the Soviet Union.
He is also an Honored Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Major General of the Air Force of the Republic of Kazakhstan and a national hero of Kazakhstan.
After Toktar Aubakirov, the Kazakhs Talgat Musabaev, in 1994 and 1998, and Aidyn Ayimbetov, in 2015, traveled to space.
