Experts debate his links with the great masters of his time

Experts in art and culture will delve into the legacy of Julio Romero de Torres and its connection with the great masters of the time through a cycle of conferences which begins this Tuesday at Orive Room to 7:00 p.m., with free entry until full capacity.

This cycle, which will last until November 26, is part of the programming launched by the Cultural delegation of Córdoba City Hall on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the author’s birth.

The lectures invite you to rediscover Romero de Torres and explore the relationships between art, identity and cultural tensions of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period of intense social and artistic change in Spain.

This Tuesday the round table ‘Romero de Torres. Painter of modernity’, with Lourdes Moreno, artistic director of Carmen Thyssen Museum Málaga; José María Báez, visual artist and exhibition curator, and Carmen Castilla, film researcher and criticwhich will inaugurate the cycle by analyzing the work of Julio Romero de Torres as a symbol of modernity and its impact on Spanish art and society of his time.

On November 18, the “Zuloaga” conference will take place. Deep and expansive’, with Javier Novo, coordinator of the conservation and research space of the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao, who will offer an in-depth exploration of Ignacio Zuloagacontemporary of Romero de Torres. His talk will analyze how Zuloaga, with his introspective and expansive style, captured the essence of a transforming Spain and the complexities of its culture.

    November 19. Black Spain Conference. Between fascination and denunciation”, with Carlos Alonso Pérez-Fajardo, exhibition curator and director of the Ignacio Zuloaga de Pedraza museum.

    November 25. Conference ‘Julio Romero de Torres, his painting does not appear out of nowhere. Context and influences’, with Fuensanta García de la Torre, curator and researcher specializing in Julio Romero de Torres.

    November 26. Conference “Sorolla and White Spain”, with Luis Alberto Pérez Velarde, curator at the Sorolla Museum, who will close the cycle with a conference dedicated to Joaquín Sorolla and his interpretation of “White Spain”.

On November 19, the “Black Spain” conference will take place. Between fascination and denunciation”, with Carlos Alonso Pérez-Fajardocurator and director of the Ignacio Zuloaga de Pedraza museum, who will address the concept of “Black Spain”exploring the way in which artists of the time presented a critical and enigmatic vision of Spanish reality. This talk will examine the duality between fascination and denunciation in the work of Zuloaga and other creators.

The conference “Julio Romero de Torres, his painting does not appear out of nowhere” is scheduled for November 25. Context and influences’, with Fuensanta Garcia de la Torre, curator and researcher specializing in Julio Romero de Torres, who will offer an in-depth look at the artistic and cultural influences that defined the work of the Cordovan painter. It will analyze the elements of its context that fueled its unique style and its representation of deep Andalusia.

And on November 26, the conference “Sorolla and White Spain”, with Luis Alberto Pérez Velarde, curator of the Sorolla Museumwhich will close the cycle with a conference dedicated to Joaquín Sorolla and his interpretation of “White Spain”, a bright and optimistic vision of the country. He will compare this perspective with that of Romero de Torres and other artists, highlighting how each captured the nuances of a diverse and changing Spain.
