Experts opposed to Podemos veto advise the PP on its plan to draft a new trans law

The PP is counting on its plan to repeal the Trans law of the government of Pedro Sánchez and develop new regulations in this regard with the collaboration of experts who have been singled out and vetoed by Podemos for having denounced the most harmful aspects of this regulation that the communists approved within the Coalition Executive. Thanks to the Reformismo21 foundation, led by Pablo Vázquez and to which the party Alberto Nuñez Feijóo provided significant momentum, experts Jose Errasti And Irene Aguiar They gave a closed-door conference last week about it think tank of the PP in which they presented their vision on the government’s trans law and inequalities in sport.

For example, in April 2022, Podemos celebrated the cancellation of the book presentation No one is born in the wrong bodyby José Errasti and Marino Pérez Álvarezwhich was to take place at University of the Balearic Islands. The academic institution ultimately chose to suspend the event due to “the impossibility of guaranteeing security conditions” due to the radicals encouraged by Podemos, Mes and the Ben Amics associationwho tried to prevent the public from entering the event room.

For her part, Irene Aguiar, a lawyer specializing in sports law and one of the most recognized voices in Spain in this area, questioned the training of the former Minister of Equality. Irene Montero of the veto he suffered in October 2022 when he was going to intervene in the III State Congress of Women and Sport organized for the end of this year. Aguiar was originally invited to participate in the panel titled Women’s health in sporthowever, the Government of Gran Canaria -which governed Nueva Canarias, the PSOE and Podemos- ended up canceling this congress. “Well, now it’s my turn: they censored a table I was going to participate in. Soon I will be able to say more, but we are living in a very bad period for poetry,” denounced the lawyer on social networks.

A few months earlier, Aguiar was able to speak in April 2022 at the Congress of Deputies at the invitation of the Culture and Sports Commission to report on the sports law. Here the expert was clear: “Gender categorization is not a matter of tastebecause otherwise we would face mixed competition. This is done because, quite simply, women and men – in terms of biological sex – are different, we have different bodies. Men have between 20 and 40% more total mass; between 30 and 40% more muscle mass; 30% less body fat; between 25 and 50% more cardiorespiratory capacity, larger lungs and heart, and also a different bone structure…”, he stressed.

“Men have between 10 and 15% more speed, between 50 and 100% more strength – depending on whether it is upper or lower body – and even between 30 and 40% more capacity than produce strength and power, even at the same size. This results in a sporting advantagebecause the sport feeds on these skills,” Aguiar emphasized.

Precisely, as OKDIARIO published last June, the Popular Group registered at the Congress of Deputies a non-law proposal where the popular They want the Lower House to urge the government to establish the biological sex as the “only criterion” in sports competitions. Concretely, as indicated in the initiative’s operative part, while awaiting the debate and vote in plenary, the PP wants Parliament to urge the PSOE-Sumar executive to “guarantee, through the approval of as many measures and legislative changes as necessary, that the The only determining criterion for the allocation of sporting categories is biological sex. best criterion to guarantee equal opportunitiesnon-discrimination and competitive justice.

With this initiative, aimed at “guaranteeing equal opportunities for women in the sporting field”, Feijóo’s party seeks to give an image to the PSOE. Furthermore, the popular They request in the text the carrying out of an impact study in regional, national and international sports competitions in which Spain participates, on the participation of trans people in order to “quantify, among other things, the most affected sports”. At the same time, the PP also demands that the Executive promotes within the Council of the European Union a common position of the Member States.

Ultimately, the Feijóo PP, which will make a new law to protect the rights of trans peoplecalls on the government to “coordinate a homogeneous position between national and international sporting entities, as well as Spanish public administrations, to achieve equal opportunities for women in all sporting categories”.
