Expert’s suggestion: “We will restore our cultural monuments in Western Azerbaijan ourselves”

“Our cultural monuments belonging to the local population of Armenia, i.e. Western Azerbaijanis, have been constantly destroyed and vandalized by the Armenians.”

This Oku.AzMilitary-political expert, who was deported from Armenia in 1988 Telman Gasimov saying.

According to him, the main goal of the Armenians here was to prove that the country does not belong to Western Azerbaijanis: “That is, in the future they will be able to prove that these lands do not belong to Azerbaijanis. Therefore, such cultural monuments are constantly doomed to destruction, for example in Western Azerbaijan, be it our mosques, our bridges, the main information about our caravanserai and other historical monuments we have from Armenian and foreign sources. This also proves that the Armenians themselves destroyed these monuments because they knew that they belonged to Azerbaijanis. Only the Red Bridge, mosques, baths and other cultural monuments in the Tepebaşı district of Yerevan have almost disappeared. The Armenian government has not taken any measures to preserve these monuments. . if it was not in its interest. Imagine if these monuments belonged to Armenian culture, would it be so? Of course not, they would have been restored long ago. We even held many events related to the mosque in the Tepebaşı neighborhood, we appealed to UNESCO, but there was no result and that mosque was destroyed and destroyed.”

“Let me tell you a fact: a few years ago, during the repair of fountains on Republic Square in Yerevan, a city built in the Eastern style emerged from under the ground. Later, after getting acquainted with the fountains, it became clear that in the place of those fountains there were houses with roofs and domes belonging to Islamic culture and other monuments were destroyed, however, the foundations of those monuments remained, so they immediately stopped the construction so that future generations would not notice. It is true, but if it belonged to Armenian culture, then everyone would have thrown the cart,” the expert stressed.

Our interviewee added that similar problems are found not only in Yerevan, but also in other areas: “For example, there is an area from the foot of Mount Ağrı to Nakhchivan, which is called Chukhursed Baylarbeyli. Even now, cultural monuments belonging to us are being discovered during excavations in that area. All this proves once again that the main cause of the destruction of these monuments is that although the monuments were destroyed, the records of European and Russian travelers are still used as a source. They cannot destroy the sources! The state should periodically raise the issue with UNESCO so that UNESCO itself restores these monuments or the Azerbaijani state stipulates that conditions must be created for us to restore the monuments belonging to us. We should put them on the list, because the Armenians will not do it.”
