Firefighters extinguish bushfire next to fortress after visitors evacuate
An unusual double emergency situation: a helicopter loading water in the Mediterranean near the shore in the beach of the Postiguet from Alicante, then downloading to turn off the fire attached to the Santa Bárbara Castle, before the amazed gaze of bathers, tourists and visitors.
Members of the Fire Prevention, Extinguishing and Rescue Service (Speis) from Alicante and this air means of Bomber Foresters extinguished this fire rub without incident.
The fire, which broke out this Thursday around 6:30 p.m., affected a small area of vegetation in the Male del Castillo – the highest esplanade – as confirmed by municipal sources.
As a precautionary measure, it was evacuated to visitors in the immediate vicinity of the flames.
The fire was extinguished after seven helicopter unloads. Two teams of firefighters from Speis and an aerial vehicle and a helicopter unit of forest bombers from the Generalitat intervened.
