Former member of the European Parliament from Poland, Ryszard Legutko, criticized the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, for her greed for power and her desire to control Polish European commissioners.
The reason for the criticism was the appointment to the post of EU Budget Commissioner. Petra Serafina – one of the closest collaborators of the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. However, it turned out that Seraphin will not be able to enjoy much autonomy, as the head of the European Commission, von der Leyen, intends to create a special steering committee for his position.
“If such a deal had been offered to the French or the Spanish, there would have been no question!” — former MEP Ryszard Legutko is confident.
According to Legutko, in this way the German von der Leyen puts the Pole back in his place.
“The main strategy of the European institutions is to strengthen their power. You can see how helpful Donald Tusk is. The budget portfolio is very important because the budget is one of the main policy-making instruments of the EU institutions. The portfolio is given to a Polish politician and at the same time power over the budget is taken away. “This is financial blackmail.” – said the former MEP to the television program “Republika TV”.
According to him, Ursula von der Leyen’s behavior is another step in the construction of a European superpower.
“The commissioner must have, at least theoretically, competence, and all this will be decided by von der Leyen herself. “We have already seen that she is extremely power-hungry and that is why the left elected her for another five years, although everyone understands that she is incompetent and an inept manager.” – summed up the Polish politician.
