Face of Polish “vampire girl” who died 400 years ago reconstructed

Swedish archaeologist and sculptor Oskar Nilsson has reconstructed the face of a “vampire girl” buried in Poland in the 17th century and called “Zosya” by local residents.

Oku.Az According to TASS, the Nicolaus Copernicus University of Torun reported on this.

“On Monday, October 28, Nilsson presented the reconstructed face of the young woman,” notes the educational institution’s website.

The sculptor began the reconstruction of the girl’s face in April.

According to the report, Nilsson determined tissue thickness at anatomical points on the face by attaching pins of various lengths to a 3D-printed copy of the skull. He then added muscles made of special clay to these pins.

Additional layers were then applied to make the facial features and texture appear more realistic, taking into account pupils, wrinkles, pores and possible trauma scars. In the final stage of work, the statue is dipped in silicone and hair, eyelashes and eyebrows are added. The statue of Zosya’s face will be sent to Poland in the coming weeks.

It should be remembered that in 2022, archaeologists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun discovered the skeleton of a 17th century girl who died when she was between 18 and 20 years old in the cemetery of the village of Pen, near Bydgosz, located in northwestern Poland. . They placed a sickle around his neck and tied a padlock to one of his toes. According to scientists, at that time this type of funeral ceremonies were practiced to protect themselves from vampires.
