The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) has fined EDA TV, Javier Negre’s disinformation outlet, for publishing a photo of Óscar Puente’s daughter when she was a minor. The penalty amounts to 5,000 euros for publishing a snapshot of the current Minister of Transport attending the Mad Cool music festival with his daughter in the summer of 2023. The AEPD ruled that these images violate Article 5.1.c of the General Data Protection Regulation, having unlawfully processed the minor’s personal data without complying with the requirement that they be “adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are processed”, the so-called principle of “data minimization”.
On July 8, 2023, EDA TV published a report on its website titled They hunt Oscar Puente with another woman. Insinuations were made in the text such as “caught at MadCool with a woman who is not the same one he was seen with before”, that “they were together throughout the event” or that Óscar Puente attended the concert. “in the company of a pretty black-haired woman“The report also contained other comments, such as that his presence at the music festival in Madrid “had caused more than one controversy due to his behavior.”
The insinuations broadcast by EDA TV have provoked a wave of comments on social networks insinuating that he was unfaithful to his romantic partner and even that his my partner was a prostitute. In reality, it was one of his daughters, Carmen, who at that date had not yet reached the age of majority.
Minister Oscar Puente publicly denounced the release of this report. He also made representing his daughter before the AEPD. Data Protection took up this complaint and fined the disinformation media outlet run by Javier Negre. Furthermore, despite the Agency’s requests to EDA TV to remove the publications, they remain on its Twitter profile and Telegram channel to this day. The news, on the contrary, was deleted from the news site.
Oscar Puente defends himself
Óscar Puente has become one of the most visible faces of Pedro Sánchez’s executive since his activity via social networks. Since joining the government in November 2023, Óscar Puente has not hesitated to defend himself through his Twitter account against the agitators who spread information and images about his private life. Verifiable confrontations between the minister and the people behind these profiles are frequent.

Oscar Puente recently denounced in a radio interview that these clashes are due to “the persecution he suffered for years from triumvirate of Quiles, Negre and Alvise“. He influences the dissemination of the photo with his daughter at Mad Cool in which he points out that “they just said I was going to the concert with a whore”. Precisely, these attacks related to his family are those that most hurt the Minister of Transport, who did not hesitate to report them to the competent bodies. He also uses his Twitter account through which he denounces this defamation campaign against him that has led many profiles to publish images of his family life beyond his position as minister.

He specifies however that he is aware that this is not the typical reaction of a minister, but that politicians are asked to act “like a robot”. Although he recognizes that “the suffering is great,” says Óscar Puente, he says he trusts in time, which will eventually put things back in their place and “These people will end up where they must end up”. For the moment, the Spanish Data Protection Agency has ruled in his favour and has imposed a fine of several thousand euros on the media that published the photos with his youngest daughter.
