Staff from the educational community and affected families gathered for a demonstration in Valencia to protest the direction after DANA. The thousands of people who took to the streets this Saturday denounce the chaos and disorganization since many schools in the affected areas remain closed 25 days after the tragic storm which left more than 200 dead. The families demand the resignation of the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, and the Minister of Education, José Antonio Rovira.
The demonstration was called by the Platform for Public Education and under the slogan “Mazón and Rovira, resignation”. Parent-teacher organizations, as well as teacher and student unions, participated. All left at six in the afternoon from the Plaza de San Agustín and should end in the Plaza de la Virgen, where a manifesto will be read.
In addition to the main banner, posters referring to schools in the affected areas were seen. In the case of Paiporta, “schools without mud” were demanded, while in Catarroja “prefabricated schools now” were requested, and others with phrases such as “The storm is dangerous, capitalism is mortal.” Without distinction and in the meantime, slogans such as “President Picassent” were chanted, in reference to the prison located in this Valencian municipality.
