Heaven and earth are moving families of people with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) to find their prescribed medications. And that’s it the lack of stock in Catalan pharmacies They led them to extreme solutions in order to find the necessary drugs.
“We came to Andorra to get the medicines” comments Maite de Miquel, president of the Catalan ADHD Federation. Lidia Arroyo, educational psychologist expert in neurodevelopmental disorders, assures that she knows cases of people who go to places where the prescription works for them, in neighboring countries like Portugal, France or Andorra.
“I will travel the miles necessary for my son to receive the medication,” says Maite. In fact, her son was taking the most prescribed medication, Concerta, for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and the hardest to find.
A medicine that pharmacies claim they cannot obtain. “Every day we try to order boxes of Concerta and it’s impossible, we can’t find them. Sometimes we only receive one box,” explains pharmacist Sofía Mazuryk.
“We called 70 pharmacies in less than 48 hours. “My son had to take three different medications in three days,” laments Maite. A change in medication which, although not in all cases, can have side effects.
However, experts call for calm because there are alternatives, even if they are not always as effective and available in pharmacies. And while the associations of family members and those affected have addressed the Ministry of Health to ask for a solution.
