Fernando Alonsothe oldest driver on the grid Formula 1will meet this weekend in Austin 400 races at the “Grand Cirque”.
During the FIA press conference before the United States GP, the Asturian spoke of such a record.
“I recognize the number, okay, but it’s some of those stats that you don’t really care about. You know, I would love to run half the 400 and win one more championship or win more races“, he explained.
In fact, he considers himself gone “at least 40 or 50 more in the next two years” and that the dream of the title is possible provided you have “the best car on the grid”.
“POf course you can win a title at 40. I think Lewis is 40 or 39 now, 40 next year. And he is a championship contender with Ferrari. The car is the main thing. What it takes to win a championship at 40 is the same as it was at 20 and 30. what is the best car on the grid“, he noted.
Alonso was also asked what he missed most about Formula 1 of yesteryear.
“The refueling, the fast cars on Sunday, the sound of the engine, the great sponsors, girls on the grill, boys on the grill, we had it all…Now it’s all about social media and stuff like that. Before, it was like doing more things in the real world“, he added.
