The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has accused the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, of “encouraging a call effect” of migrants during their trip to Africa. Sánchez is currently on an official trip to Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia; Last night, during his first stopover in Mauritania, the president defended that migration is not a problem, but “a necessity that implies certain problems”, and assured that it is “fundamental” for the Spanish economy because it represents “wealth, development and prosperity”.
This morning, the opposition leader, Núñez Feijóo, considered this intervention by the president “irresponsible”. In a message on the social network “Unlike the rest of the EU”, Feijóo said. The “popular” also defended that anyone who comes to Spain must have a “contract of origin” and a “letter of conformity” with Spanish laws.
Sánchez considers migration “fundamental” for the economy
From Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, Sánchez appeared yesterday evening with his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, after the meeting they had together. The President of the Government then explained that during their meeting they discussed how to jointly manage the issue of migration, and stressed that this phenomenon is a matter of moral principles, solidarity and dignity, as well as a matter of rationality, since the contribution of migrants and workers to the Spanish economy is “fundamental.”
The head of the executive also recalled that until recently, Spain was a country of people who emigrated in search of a better future. “They aspired to a better life, as do people who, in many cases, take serious risks and undertake a dangerous adventure,” he added.
Sánchez defended the promotion of formulas to manage the phenomenon of migration for the benefit of societies and to combat mafias that engage in human trafficking. In addition, the president signed a memorandum of understanding with Mauritania for circular migration projects – temporary hiring of workers for certain sectors – and the strengthening of collaboration in security and the fight against organized crime.
