Feijóo and Clavijo close a migration plan that provides for the transfer of irregulars to other EU countries

The leader of the PP and head of the opposition in the central government, Alberto Nuñez Feijooand the President of the Canary Islands and Secretary General of the Canarian Coalition (CC), Fernando Clavijo, signed this Tuesday an action plan against “lack of immigration control” which provides for measures such as the request for transfer of irregular immigrants to other countries of the European Union. This appears in the document that the two parties have made public. This document will now be made available to the Executive of Pedro Sanchez reach agreements on immigration law reform and “unblock” the delicate situation that the islands and other communities of the peninsula are going through in terms of reception.

“The Canary Islands cannot pay the lack of government immigration policy de Sánchez,” Feijóo said. Among the actions discussed, he mentioned “the request for a possible transfer of immigrants to other Member States through the Voluntary solidarity mechanism signed by 21 EU countries.

The PP president also stressed that regarding the reception of unaccompanied foreign minors (menas) the plan foresees “up to 100% of the capacity, the ordinary resources will be financed by each community; when the reception capacity is between 100 and 150%, the resources will be financed in full by the Government and the management by the Autonomous Communities; and when the capacity exceeds 150%, the resources will be managed and financed by the central government.

At the same time, the signed plan, Feijóo explained, must begin with the urgent convocation of the Conference of Presidents, the declaration of a migratory emergency so that the autonomous communities can recruit emergency resources and thus make visible the dimension of the crisis, and thirdly guarantee border control.

In this case, to guarantee border control, PP and CC commit to improving police control, a transit passport, providing more human and material resources to the General Immigration Commission or even deploying forces in the countries of transit and origin.

In addition, the agreement provides for the urgent convening of the Conference of Presidents; the request to the EU to deploy Frontex and the European Asylum Office, and the increase in staff handling return cases; the full use of all available European funds; the intensification of Spain’s foreign action with its countries of origin; the review of information flows between the communities and the central government; the agreement between the government and the communities to implement the European Pact on Migration and Asylum; and the ratification of all these points at the Conference of Presidents and the corresponding sectoral conferences.

In this context, Feijóo assured that the measures collected aim to be “responsible for institutional loyalty and the vision of the State, to activate all mechanisms of cooperation and responsibility between the Autonomous Communities and the Government, and to involve all administrations in a problem that affects everyone,” he added.
