Alberto Núñez Feijóo ignored the challenge that the President of the Government had thrown at him during his appearance to postpone the political battle for DANA for a few weeks. Even if Pedro Sánchez focused on defending the role of his executive and hardly made any vague reproaches to the president of the Generalitat during his appearance (“the system has not failed, some have failed”, he said. he declared), he heard testimonies from his seat how the leader of the opposition had no qualms in attacking him with his partner, accusing him of lack of humanity and even attributing to him the possible commission of certain crimes.
“What a lack of humanity and what a lack of humility,” said Feijóo, referring directly to the Penal Code. “Is prevarication by omission a crime? Is omission another crime? Why didn’t you report the alarm? Because he didn’t want to or because they wouldn’t let him? They should have declared a state of emergency and they know it because it has affected several communities. Or are the seven deaths in Castile-La Mancha the responsibility of the Valencian president? “Or do you not care about these presidents?” asked Feijóo, who in no way referred to the hours during which his colleague, Valencian President Carlos Mazón, was unreachable for a working lunch at more critical of the tragedy.
In turn, the opposition leader began by apologizing “to those who believe that the policy did not live up to the circumstances and the people” but he did not hesitate to clash with the president of the Government throughout its intervention. “They seem to have done everything for the victims but until now they were only making political calculations. This time he miscalculated. People won’t forgive him for not exercising his powers, for abandoning him. “You shouldn’t be here anymore,” he started pulling.
Alberto Núñez Feijóo went so far as to discredit the president for having traveled to India “with an accused woman”, in reference to the Prime Minister’s partner. “They even paid for advertising on the networks to discredit the regional government while they searched for the dead. Ladies and gentlemen, this has a regrettable moral character. You should have been the Spanish government and you decided to be the opposition to the Catalan Generalitat, to the Generalitat of Valencia,” he denounced.
Feijóo insisted on his main political argument in opposition to the Executive since the day of the tragedy, namely that Sánchez should have removed Mazón from his powers. “You should have declared a national emergency,” he repeated.
The leader of the PP did not miss the opportunity to in turn introduce subjects that have no connection with the management of DANA to attack the president, whom he accused of “hiding corruption cases which bear his name.
“He used the resources of the Spanish people to whom they are due. And what they need to do is apologize, return what they took and leave. Do not hide behind this tragedy from the scale of the despicable acts that you were capable of committing in those years. This already occupies one of the first positions, but out of respect for the victims we will continue this debate,” said Feijóo, who, however, continued by referring to the government’s judicial front.
“I am aware that his judicial and legislative agony is taking up all his time. Don’t try to hide it. You can see it on your faces. No government concerned with protecting itself in court can protect citizens in need. All efforts must be focused on reconstruction and preventing the recurrence of similar events. And you don’t have room for that. You no longer govern. Leave it already. Leave it already. The Spanish deserve an alternative that is solely at their service. And they will have it without having to ask for it,” he concluded.
