Feijóo will meet Edmundo González next Tuesday at the Congress

The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, will meet next Tuesday in Congress with the Venezuelan opponent Edmundo González, to whom he will convey his commitment to be recognized as the elected president of Venezuela. In addition, he will defend the release of all political prisoners and the request to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute Nicolás Maduro, as Europa Press has been informed by “popular” sources.

The meeting between Feijóo and González will take place at a time of growing tension, following the arrest of two Spaniards in Venezuela and Maduro’s decision to summon the Spanish ambassador to Caracas and summon his diplomatic representative to Spain for consultations.

The PP chose the Congress of Deputies for this meeting, claiming that it is the place where national sovereignty resides and that a few days ago it urged the government of Pedro Sánchez to recognize González as president-elect, party sources said.

PP continues its offensive against Venezuela

This meeting between Feijóo and González will take place on the same day that the European Parliament will debate an initiative regarding the recognition of the results of the elections in Venezuela. And the following day, the PP will present another motion in the Senate – where it has an absolute majority – expressly urging the government “to recognize Edmundo González as the new president of Venezuela, taking into account the results of the elections of July 28.”

At the September 17 meeting in Congress, Feijóo will convey to the opposition candidate his commitment to Venezuela, a country that “has suffered for years from the effects of the Chavista dictatorship,” and will defend his “recognition as the elected president of Venezuela.”

In addition, Feijóo will present his commitment to the release of all political prisoners and the request to the International Criminal Court to prosecute Nicolás Maduro, PP sources told Europa Press.

This Sunday, the deputy secretary for mobilization and digital challenge of the PP, Noelia Núñez, criticized the government for not having informed her party of the arrest of two Spanish citizens in Venezuela, which the Maduro regime associates with the CNI.

“The Sánchez government and the PSOE have better relations with the Maduro regime than with the Popular Party of Núñez Feijóo,” said Núñez, who stressed that in the PP they know “what Maduro is: a dictator.”

He will also be seen with Aznar this week

Former Prime Minister José María Aznar will also meet Edmundo González next week, sources close to him have confirmed to Europa Press. The opposition candidate has already met with former presidents Mariano Rajoy and Felipe González.

In addition, the FAES Foundation, chaired by Aznar, will dedicate a panel to the debate on Venezuela at the Campus to be held in Madrid from September 23 to 26 under the title “The renewal of the European Union.”

The FAES considers that Maduro “was seeking the exile of Edmundo González, elected president of Venezuela, and he achieved it.” “For this, the complicity of the Spanish government, promoted by José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, lawyer and protector of the Chavista dictatorship and creator of this shameful operation disguised as a humanitarian gesture, was essential,” the foundation said a few days ago in a statement from its notes.
