Femen activists demonstrate in the Senate against the international anti-abortion summit: “Abortion is sacred”

The government control session in the Senate was interrupted by two Femen activists shouting “abortion is sacred” to protest against “anti-abortion” summitas they call the VI Transatlantic Summit which will take place on December 2 in the said Chamber.

While the oversight session was taking place, both stood up from their seats in the public gallery of the chamber and took off their shirts in protest. On their chests could be read messages from “Abortion is sacred” and “abortion of the Constitution.”

The President of the Senate, Pedro Rollán, ordered the expulsion of the two activists. Moments later, Femen posted a message on their social media sharing the protest they had just organized.

“We have just demonstrated in the Senate against the anti-abortion summit which will take place in this Assembly on December 2. Abortion is sacred, now and always. Our body, our standards! “, they put in “X”.

This summit they are referring to caused various criticisms of the Government and its partners to the PP for allowing this forum to be held in the Upper House.

ERC, Bildu, BNG, PNV, Izquierda Confederal and PSOE united to ask the Senate Council to withdraw the authorization granted for the celebration of this event organized by Red Política in the Upper House because it is “anti-abortion » and they also registered a joint initiative for debate and voting within the Equality Commission.

The signatory groups also demanded the modification of the guidelines for the management of the transfers from Senate chambers so that, “with respect for plurality and freedom of expression”, criteria are established which neither threaten nor favor the regression of rights and actions against the legislation in force.
