Fernando Alonso admits he wanted to be a footballer, not a Formula 1 driver

“I didn’t choose to be a pilot. He was my father, I have to admit“: that’s how sincere he was Fernando Alonso during an interview with a sponsor of Aston Martin in India.

In it, in addition to talking about the “priority” of winning the third title or the dream of the Dakar, the Spaniard recalled what his beginnings in karting were like.

“In my case, I did my first go-kart race when I was three years old, which, As you can imagine, I didn’t choose it. My father was very happy that day, my mother less,” he explained.

Of course, despite his father’s love of engines, little Fernando threw the ball more.

“When I was eight, nine, ten years old, I remember I would go compete on the weekends, but during the week I was at school, playing soccer and being a goalkeeper. And I remember I loved playing football the most than competing on the weekend,” he recalls.

“But I couldn’t tell my father. And in football, there are hundreds, thousands of players. In Formula 1, there are only 20,” he added.

Motorsport transformed his life from a very young age: “I didn’t have a normal school schedule, I wasted a lot of time, I was just racing around Italy and different countries. I took exams the following weeks and [estaba] I’m having a little trouble.”

“At the age of 19 I became a Formula 1 driver. The first time I went to a nightclub I was 29. So I missed a lot“, he settled.
