Festival massacre in Germany

A tragic incident occurred last night at a music festival in the German city of Solingen: a man armed with a knife attacked the participants of the event, causing the death of three people and injuring nine others.

This was reported by the DW news agency.

The perpetrator, who is believed to be of Arab appearance, reportedly attacked people right in front of the stage. After the crime, the offender fled the scene and is currently being actively sought by the police.

The festival, dedicated to the city’s 650th anniversary, is known to have been organised to demonstrate the high level of “multicultural diversity” achieved in the region. The German authorities have not yet provided any information on the identity of the author or his motives.

The festival, which was due to continue until 25 August, was interrupted and all citizens were asked to leave the city centre.

It is worth noting that the head of the German Interior Ministry, Nancy Feser, has called for a tougher ban on carrying knives with a blade longer than 6 centimetres. These calls came after an incident in Mannheim, when a 25-year-old man from Afghanistan attacked participants at an event of the anti-Islamic movement Pax Europa.

Earlier, Cursor wrote that several people were injured at Paris’ Gare du Nord station as a result of a knife attack in the morning. The attacker was reportedly “neutralised” by city police, who opened fire at the scene. Police cordoned off the area to investigate and train services were suspended, affecting all departures and arrivals at Paris Nord station.
