Finca Río Negro presents the new vintages of its high-altitude wines

Finca Río Negro presented the new vintages of its high-altitude wines: unique productions that reflect the winery’s commitment to producing one of the most unique wines in Spainin Cogolludo (Guadalajara).

With a limited production of 16,781 numbered bottles, the winery presents the fourth vintage of Cerro del Lobo, an exclusive plot wine that represents the maximum expression of the Syrah grape variety from Finca Río Negro.

‘Cerro del Lobo’ takes its name from the northernmost plot –where for the first time the presence of this protected species was recorded in the Río Negro–, located on a steep slope delimited by two streams. The spectacular adaptation of the Syrah grape variety to the Finca Río Negro terroir, since its planting 25 years ago, pushed the winery to decide to create this wine. This vintage was exceptional in terms of weather with a cool month of September which allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly. The winery, thanks to artisanal processes, obtains a red wine with an intense, deep and complex aroma. On the palate its opulence and freshness stand out, it is tasty, persistent and round.

5th year 2019 – Finca Río Negro Emblem –after aging for 18 months in new and second-use French oak barrels from Allier, is a red wine with a very intense, elegant and complex aroma with a long and silky finish. Made solely from the selection of the best plots of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties, it stands out for its extraordinary aging capacity.

Furthermore, it is presented Finca Rio Negro 2020which reflects the soul of the winery, made with 50% Tempranillo, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 5% Merlot and 5% Tinto Fragoso, being the first time that this local indigenous grape variety is incorporated into the flagship product of the cellar. . It is aged in French Allier (75%) and American (25%) oak barrels for 12 months, being a very fruity wine, but with the complexity provided by its passage in barrel. It is very versatile, powerful but also elegant, full-bodied, fresh and very long.

Finally, 992 FRN 2022whose name is inspired by the height of the vineyard located 992 meters above sea level, is made with 85% Tempranillo, 10% Syrah and 5% Merlot, and stands out for its intense aroma, where red and purple fruits with subtle nuances predominate. notes of French Allier and American oak.

And the collection is completed by Gewürztraminer 2023the only white wine from the winery managed by the Fuentes family. A single grape variety aged on lees for 4 months for lovers of aromatic and dry wines. An extraordinarily intense, tasty and very persistent wine.

Finca Río Negro produces high altitude wines in one of the highest vineyards from the center of the peninsula to northern Europe, located in Cogolludo, next to the Sierra Norte Natural Park of Guadalajara. Their wines are present in the main guides, both national and international, obtaining high marks in each of them.

The Fuentes family, at the head of Finca Río Negro, has been recovering the Cogolludo wine tradition for more than two decades. With their own vision of making unique wines, they manage to produce one internationally recognized white and four reds.

The location and distance from any designation of origin, added to the height of the vineyards – at 1,000 meters, in one of the highest terroirs in the center of the peninsula in northern Europe, an altitude that challenges the limits of vine cultivation – and the complexity of the soils, allow us to produce unique and particular wines.
