The Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom) has sanctioned C8 again: a symbolic fine of one euro was imposed on the channel for clandestine advertising in two programs presented by Cyril Hanouna in December 2023 and in February 2024, according to online media. revelations The informed and confirmed to Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Tuesday, August 6.
This new sanction comes after Arcom’s decision, in July, not to renew the authorization to broadcast C8 and NRJ12 on TNT, in particular after its numerous warnings, requirements and fines for non-compliance with its obligations in recent years.
Before this symbolic fine, Arcom’s last sanction against C8 dates back to June 14. The regulator had imposed a fine of 50,000 euros on C8 for a sequence from the program “PAF avec Baba” on September 12, 2023, in which disabled people appearing in a video were wrongly presented as drug addicts dependent on “zombie drugs.” (xylazine). In July, Arcom also imposed fines of 20,000 euros and 60,000 euros on the group’s other channel, CNews, for various violations in the programs “La Matinale Weekend” and “Punchline Summer” broadcast in 2023.
These sanctions are only the latest in a long series of breaches of obligations (information pluralism, channel control, advertising, retransmission, etc.) notified by Arcom to CNews and C8.
Following reports from viewers, the audiovisual regulator, which took over from the Higher Audiovisual Council (CSA), may act gradually: a simple warning, a warning, possibly followed by a warning in case of non-compliance and, finally, a economic sanction. In theory, suspending the broadcast of a program or service is possible but it has never happened. C8 and CNews are the only French channels that have been subject to financial sanctions.
According to a count made by the world, The two channels received at least 47 sanctions from Arcom and the CSA between December 2012 and August 2024, with a clear acceleration in their frequency in the last four years.
