Finnish authorities intend to continue confiscation of Russian property

Finland may continue to confiscate Russian property in the future, the head of the country’s bailiff service, Aki Virtanen, said in Yle.

Previously, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova stated that the Russian side did not receive official notifications about Helsinki’s imposition of restrictions on some Russian facilities in Finland; A legal assessment will be carried out after the Finnish authorities clarify the situation at the request of Moscow;

“The investigation is still ongoing. It is not yet known if there will be new seizures as part of the case. “The work will continue” Virtanen said.

Virtanen highlighted that, according to estimates, the total value of the seized assets currently amounts to around €38 million.

The Helsingin Sanomat newspaper reported on Monday that land at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Helsinki had been confiscated, which came into effect on October 24. On Tuesday, the publication reported, citing the bailiff service, that the list of seized real estate includes 44 objects, the value of which is estimated at 35.5 million euros.

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitri Peskov stated that Russia will challenge the seizure of Russian real estate in Finland in court and will use all legal mechanisms to protect its interests.
