The WHO has approved the first vaccine against monkeypox.
The MVA-BN vaccine produced by the Danish manufacturer “Bavarian Nordic A/S” has passed the preliminary qualification of the World Health Organization (WHO) and is the first approved drug against monkeypox.

“WHO has announced that MVA-BN will be the first smallpox vaccine to be included in its preliminary qualification list,” the document states.
According to the organization, the MVA-BN vaccine can be used to treat people over 18 years of age who are at high risk of infection.
“The vaccine is administered as an injection in two doses four weeks apart. Although the MVA-BN vaccine is currently not authorized for persons under 18 years of age, it can be used ‘off-label’ in infants, children and adolescents, as well as pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals,” the statement said.
