First phase of Azucaica collector works to prevent flooding begins

The mayor of Toledo, Carlos Velazquezpresented from the field this Tuesday morning the first phase of the works that will be undertaken around the collector of the Azucaica neighborhood, an action that hopes to be ready within eight months and that will have a cost close to 500,000 euros in this first chapter.

At a press conference, he recalled that this presentation day coincides with the DANA’s first anniversary which devastated the surroundings of the city and part of the province, and 365 days later, “major works” began to “minimize the damage” of possible future rains.

This first phase will consist of the construction of a large solids retention basin so that “the debris and sand that arrive” through the channels of the watercourses during rainy periods can stagnate.

After recalling that all the damage suffered in Toledo was caused by the watercourses that flow into the Tagus from other municipalities, he guaranteed that this action will allow “to retain part of the drainage and not collapse the pipes.”

This is a first attack before a second later phase, still to be planned and without budget, which will serve to channel the stream that crosses this peripheral district of the city.

This second phase, he said, should be completed during this legislature, given that it also depends on the authorizations obtained from other administrations with powers in the territories where they wish to act.
