First tests to recover the Metrovalencia tram service after DANA

The Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) began this Wednesday the traffic tests on the tram lines of Metrovalencewith the aim of resuming service in the coming days, after the serious damage caused by DANA to all the facilities of the metro and tram network in Valencia and its metropolitan area.

The tests were carried out in the Lines 4, 6, 8 and 10 of Metrovalencia in order to verify that all security, signaling, communication, supply and customer service systems operate with all guarantees.

The reopening of the tram, expected in the coming daysis part of a plan designed jointly with the Ministry of the Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, which takes place in three phases and begins with the tram lines.

This programming continues with the reopening of the metro lines in the coming weeks, leaving the connection with the municipalities of the Horta Sud and La Ribera regions for a longer-term final phase, as these are the sections most affected by the storm.

In addition to the significant damage suffered throughout the Metrovalencia network, there is damage to the Valencia South command post and workshops which prevents service from being provided. FGV is working on conditioning an alternative Command Post for the metro lines in the Machado workshops and two tram control stations have already been installed in the Tarongers workshops and at the Alacant station, these in the test period.

As an alternative to the Metrovalencia network, the Generalitat has allowed 12 new bus lanes to facilitate connectivity of the different neighborhoods and towns near Valencia and guarantee the mobility of citizens.

The new services made possible by the Department of the Environment, Infrastructure and Territory in collaboration with the ATMV will be expanded in the coming days. These lines connect the stopping points of Valencia or EMT, Cercanías and the existing Metrobús lines.

Resumption of metro service

Alongside the recovery of the tramway, work is being carried out to restore the Lines 3, 5 and 9 as well as part of the routes of lines 1, 2 and 7 metro, which will allow circulation in areas not affected by DANA. This part of the Metrovalencia rail network does not show significant damage and, once the new Command Post is in service, it can be reopened to traffic in the coming weeks.

For its part, the section between Sant Isidre and Castelló, the southern section of lines 1, 2 and 7, is the most affected and presents all kinds of serious damage, both at the level of the tracks and the catenary, which is why it requires great attention. longer action process.
