Five departments remain on orange alert for rain and floods, new alert for Wednesday

Five departments remain on orange alert for rain and flooding on Tuesday, October 8, Météo-France announced in its 10 o’clock bulletin. These are the Alpes Maritimes, the Hautes Alpes, Isère, Ain and Jura. Previously, Saône-et-Loire, Loire, Rhône, Ardèche, Lozère and Gard were under orange surveillance. On Monday night eleven departments were affected.

the disruption “moves slowly towards the east”specifies the public establishment, which explains that “In the departments west of the Rhône/Saone axis, rainfall is progressively decreasing and no longer justifies monitoring the orange level”. “Further east, heavy, sometimes stormy rainfall will occur for a few more hours, forcing it to remain orange until 2pm.”underlines Météo-France.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, accumulated precipitation since Monday night was “around 50 to 80 mm or even occasionally 80 to 100 mm on the Rhône/Saone axis”and reached “From 100 to 200 mm in the Cévennes, even occasionally from 200 to 250 mm”.

Fourteen departments affected on Wednesday

But so far these heavy rains have had little impact on residents: in Bouches-du-Rhône, despite the impressive rains early in the morning, firefighters reported that despite “some basements flooded”there were no significant interventions. In the Alpes-Maritimes, badly affected by floods, especially in Cannes at the end of September, “no intervention related to bad weather” Firefighters did not report the incident.

The prefect had ordered the preventive closure of daycares, schools, middle and high schools in the department throughout the day on Tuesday. It was the first time that this measure had been taken since the passage of the Aline depression on October 20, 2023, for which the department had been placed on red alert.

In addition, for Wednesday, Météo-France has placed fourteen departments under orange surveillance: Vendée, Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, Deux-Sèvres, Indre-et-Loire, Sarthe, Eure-et-Loir, Loir and Cher , Loiret, Seine and Marne, Essonne, Yvelines, Val-d’Oise and Ile-de-France.
