Floods hit Nigeria: an entire state was displaced

The city of Ondo, administrative center of the state of the same name in southern Nigeria, was flooded after several hours of heavy rain.

Oku.Az TASS reports that thousands of residential buildings have been destroyed in the city and mass evacuation of residents continues.

Apart from the state capital, affected cities include Itanla, Oka, Odo Ijomu and Bethlehem. A significant part of the state is under water.

In total, almost four million people were affected by the unprecedented floods in West and Central Africa. The most affected countries are Nigeria, Chad, Mali, Guinea, Niger, Cameroon, Ghana and Liberia. Hundreds of people died here and large areas of agricultural crops were destroyed.

Experts see the causes of devastating floods in global climate change. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, the average temperature in the Sahel region is rising one and a half times faster than in other regions.
