Launching the interception, the Berlin Senate government has issued a deportation order for citizens in the United States, Poland and Ireland, even though no one was punished for any crime. The order is scheduled to apply within one month.
“What we see here is really like the right orientations,” said Alexander Gorski, a lawyer who represented two affected protesters. “You can also see it in the USA and Germany: Political opinion differences are silenced by targeting the status of protester migration.”
The authorities’ accusation against Cooper Longbottom, Kasia Wlaszczyk, Shane O’Brien and Roberta Murray began with their participation in pro-Palestinian demonstrations, including the occupation of the Berlin Free University building at the end of 2024.
According to the report, the deportation order, issued on the basis of the law of German migration, was issued despite the internal objections from the head of the State Immigration Agency in Berlin and led by the political pressure.
These people are accused of supporting “terrorism and anti -Semitism”, with accusations, including shouting forbidden slogans or small confrontations with the police. They opposed the decision, condemning what they described as Germany who “armed the law of migration”.
The internal interception emails revealed the political pressure behind the deportation decision, although there was a rejection from immigration officials to Berlin.
It is expected that the order will be applied in less than a month. The decision triggered a strong reaction, criticism calling it an attack on freedom of expression and asking if Germany followed in the footsteps of Trump’s government.
