The political group Por Andalucía (in which Sumar, Más País, Podemos and Izquierda Unida converge) asked this Monday the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, to cancel the tax cuts approved since 2019 by the PP executive as a preliminary step to demand more funds from the State due to a regional financing model that is detrimental to this autonomous community, awaiting reform since 2014.
The spokesperson for this group, Immaculate Grandson (IU), met with the Andalusian president during a series of talks that stands with representatives of parliamentary groups after the meeting he had last Friday in Moncloa with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in which there was “no concrete commitment” for Andalusia. Moreno asked Sánchez to withdraw the Catalan tax quota.
The leader of this left-wing group complained to Moreno that “reverse the tax cuts”, which affect the regional section of personal income tax, inheritance and gift tax, or the real estate transfer tax, which is paid when buying a home. Nieto said at the press conference that followed that these tax cuts generate a “gap” of 900 million euros per yearAccording to him, “it is not compatible” to renounce the collection or to return the transfers to the State with “the speech of Moreno” that Andalusia “has reached the limit of its financial capacity” with the current system of distributing funds to finance health, education and social services.
‘Crazy’ competition for tax cuts
Inmaculada Nieto has criticised what she considers to be an “absurd haste” by the Andalusian government to “beat in the ranking” of tax cuts to other autonomous communities. And he recalled that Moreno reimbursed 112 million euros corresponding to aid for the creation of places in preschool education from 0 to 3 years.
On the other hand, Por Andalucía also urged the Andalusian president to promote bilateral meetings with the executive of Pedro Sánchez to Solving Andalusia’s financing ‘problems’because unlike Moreno, he believes that this “is not incompatible” with holding multilateral meetings with other regions within the framework of the Conference of Presidents to discuss this issue.
Furthermore, Por Andalucía proposed to Moreno to put on the table the elimination of the State debt to the Community which, he emphasizes, was caused by the “ungodly cuts” of the government of Mariano Rajoyto which Juanma Moreno also belonged as Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality of Spain.
