Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has released statistics on the growing number of elderly people in the country.

Based on this, the number of people over 100 years old has been increasing for 54 consecutive years. As of September, the number of people living in the country for more than a century was recorded at 95,119.

Compared to last year’s data, there was an increase of 2,980, and 83,958 people over 100 years old were women and 11,161 were men.

“We will try to increase social welfare services, including medical and nursing services, so that the elderly can continue to live comfortably,” the ministry spokesman said in a statement.

It should be noted that population data on those who lived for more than a century in Japan first began to be recorded in 1963.

With a population of approximately 125 million, Japan is known for its longevity. Itooka Tomiko, 116, is the oldest living person and also lives in Japan.
