It was reported that during the research of Professor Özgür Karaoğlu and his team in the “Kula-Salihli Geopark”, a large mass of magma was identified at a depth of 5 kilometers from the surface:
“This mass of magma rises to the surface and heats the geothermal systems in the region. The last volcanic activity in the Kula region occurred 4,700 years ago. The proximity and arrangement of the magma chambers that we discovered on the surface indicate that the probability The reactivation of the volcano is high,” the scientists emphasized.
Experts noted that active faults in the region can also cause magma.
Professor Bülent Kaypak from the Department of Geophysical Engineering at Ankara University said that the methods used in the project are the first in Türkiye.
