The News Agency announced that South Korea witnessed the new translation of the novel “Brothers Karamazov” by the Russian writer Fedor Dostoevsky, committed by the South Korean translator “Kim Jong A”, who, thus, became the first translator in the country that became unique in the translation of four major works of Dostoevsky directly from Russian.
Kim explained that most of Dostoevsky’s old translations in Korea were not translated from the original Russian text, but rather were translated from Japanese copies, which caused great mistakes and deformations in literary texts. She said: “Even some modern translations suffer from removing complete offers and heavy mistakes from the low quality of adherence, as publishing houses have concluded a contract with translators based on fixed wages without accuracy of observation.”
She added: “Idoevsky to me, I poorly translate his work, similar to the distortion of the paintings by Leonardo da Vinci and claiming that this is original. Therefore, I decided to translate his great novels to give the South Korean reader the opportunity to read the exact texts that reflect the genius of this exceptional writer. ”
According to Kim, the new translation was warmly welcomed by the audience of readers. She said: “People wrote to me that they first understood Dostoevsky through my work, and they felt that it was alive and close.
The translator indicated that thanks to her works, she wants to present the readers of Dostoevsky and his ideas and said: “I want to show the true image of the reader Dostoevski in order to think about the main issues: love, mercy and tolerance. To see the mirror of your soul in these books. For this reason, I tried to transfer every idea and every feeling.
Kim Jong received a bachelor’s degree in the field of Russian Language and Literature at Seoul National University, and then received a master’s degree in Russian literature at the same university. Having moved to the United States, she received a master’s degree and doctoral studies at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Shambin, where she defended a doctoral dissertation in Slavic literature entitled “Numbers and Symbolism in Crime and Punishment for Fyodor Dostoevsky.”
Since 2008, the translator cooperates with the Knowledge Publishing House, specializing in classical literature, and published brief translations and comments on Dostoevsky’s works, and then worked on the full translations of the four famous novels by Dostoevski and published the translation of “Crime and Punishment”, “Idiot”, and “Roman”, “Demons” and “issued in July”. Karamazov, ”and, thus, became the first translator in South Korea to translate these four famous works of the Russian writer’s sermons. In addition, the translator actively publishes his activities in the media and works as an expert in the field of literature and culture.
