The 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to South Korean writer Han Gang. The Nobel Committee reported this.
“He has a unique understanding of the connection between body and soul, the living and the dead, and his poetic and experimental style has become groundbreaking in modern prose.” – the literature committee said in a statement.
The award was awarded by “powerful poetic prose that confronts historical trauma and exposes the fragility of human life”.
Han Gang became the eighteenth woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature and the first from South Korea. She became famous for her novel The Vegetarian, which won the Booker Prize in 2016. Her novel “Human Actions” has also been translated into Russian.
Last year, the writer received the French literary award “Prix Medici” in the field of foreign literature for the novel “I Don’t Say Goodbye.”
