For the love of God: Lavrov on direct negotiations between Yerevan and Baku

If Yerevan wants to negotiate with Baku to resolve the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh directly, without Russian participation, then for God’s sake, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“We are now concerned that trilateral agreements reached at several summits between Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2020-2022 have also failed. I mentioned the resumption of transport links, and I also mentioned the tripartite commission that dealt with this, which practically no longer meets. Yerevan believes that this should be done directly with Azerbaijan, but if they succeed, then for God’s sake.” — Lavrov said at a meeting with MGIMO teachers and students.

Lavrov also noted that Moscow should consult the participants in the process on the issue of delimiting the state border, but this is not happening.

“No, they do not want to, and at the same time they are constantly trying to involve the West, the United States, the European Union, Paris, and involve them in giving their support to any process. This is their choice, but they must negotiate, first of all, with their Azerbaijani neighbors. There is no other way.” — TASS quotes Lavrov.

Former Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan He said that direct negotiations with Azerbaijan are yielding positive results.
