Ford is actively preparing for the era of autonomous vehicles, integrating innovative technologies that will help SUVs cope with the most difficult road conditions.
Oku.Az 32cars.ru reported about this.
The company has patented a system called Pre-Route Vehicle Inspection, which is designed to select the appropriate type of autonomous vehicle based on road conditions.
The essence of the technology is simple: not all cars are equally suited to different roads. Ford wants the system to check road conditions before sending out a customized car. For example, if conditions call for an all-wheel-drive SUV, the system will send a 4×4 instead of a front-wheel-drive passenger car that might get stuck in snowy or muddy terrain.
The system collects data through cameras and sensors installed in cars, as well as using third-party mapping software. Although the technology is still in the patent stage, this is another step towards Ford leading the way in the world of autonomous vehicles.
