Ford to cut shifts at Almussafes engine plant in October

The Ford plant in Almussafes (Valence) will reduce THE changes its engine manufacturing plant as of October 14, with less assembly and machining.

Specifically, the engine assembly section will operate on a single morning production shift, Monday through Friday. Until now, there were two for engines, in the morning and in the afternoon.

The section of mechanizedfor its part, will ensure two daily shifts, morning and afternoon, from Monday to Friday, in addition to a “mini-shift” at night. Currently, there are four shifts including night and weekend.

This is what the company has transmitted in an official communication to the works council of Ford Spain. After receiving this letter, the representatives of the workers asked for a urgent meeting of the Electrification Observatory Commission “as soon as possible”, as reported by the majority union, the UGT.

Ford decided on this change “after an exhaustive analysis of production needs and an optimization of resources”. “We believe that this new organization will allow us to improve efficiency and the productivity of the plant, adapting to the demands of the current market,” the company assured the unions.

The company stressed that “Ford Spain’s objective is to ensure a smooth and transparent transition to this new production model, minimizing any possible negative impact on workers.”

It is worth remembering that the Valencian factory returned from the summer holidays with approximately 400 fewer employeesmore than half of the labor regulation file (BEFORE) which agreed on 626 workers.

The plant has a Temporary Work Regulation File (ERTE) in force until December 31 of this year that affects 996 workers daily and provides for 25 days of total shutdown, both for vehicles and engines. It will be applied until the end of the year and then, in 2025, a transitional mechanism is planned until the manufacture of a new multi-energy vehicle arrives in Almussafes in 2027.
