Will the so-called “barbouzeries” affair surrounding Paris Saint-Germain cause political unrest? The question arises in light of the latest developments in this espionage-ridden court case surrounding the capital club and its Qatari president, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
According to information from World, According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the former Macronist deputy for Paris (2017-2022) and former vice-president of the National Assembly Hugues Renson was accused, at the end of his questioning at his first appearance, of influence peddling by a person invested with an elective public mandate within the framework of the judicial investigation opened by the Paris prosecutor’s office, in September 2022. Contacted by The worldMr. Renson’s attorney, Mr.my Mario Stasi declined to comment on the report. The Paris prosecutor’s office, which was also contacted, had not yet responded by Thursday evening.
Audited in June at the premises of the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), the former parliamentarian, now secretary general of EDF Hydro, is suspected, in particular, of having received advantages and gifts from PSG and of having abused his influence to allow the club to obtain favourable decisions from a public authority or administration.
Invitations to the Parc des Princes
The investigators were interested in the exchanges between the former parliamentarian, a great fan of the club, and the former director of communications (2017-2022) of PSG, Jean-Martial Ribes, accused in December 2023 of “corruption” and “influence peddling” in this case.
Since 2012, the chosen one has made several offers of services to Mr. Ribes. “If you are looking for a spokesperson, I will resign tomorrow to come and work with you.”wrote to Mr Ribes, while he was Vice President of the Assembly, on August 24, 2020.
For several years, the chosen one benefited from numerous invitations to the Parc des Princes to attend PSG matches. He was also invited to diplomatic events linked to Qatar, but was unable to attend due to scheduling reasons. His children had the privilege, in 2017, of being “child escorts”, accompanying the players on the stadium pitch.
Over time, the former MP, former advisor to Jacques Chirac and member of the France-Qatar friendship group in the National Assembly, appears to be one of the replacements activated by Ribes for political matters.
