Stephen Peat, The former Washington Capitals NHL player died after being unable to recover from injuries sustained after being run over late last month while crossing the street. He was just 44.
Peat, who suffered concussion problems after leaving hockey, played a total of 130 NHL games, where he scored eight goals, two assists and added 234 penalty minutes.
His senior year was the 2006-07 season, where he played for Albany in the American Hockey League. Up until that point, his best years were spent in Washington Capitalswhere he arrived in 2000 after being recruited in 32nd place by Anahei.
Howie Zaron, one of his closest friends, said after Peat’s death: “We want people know that he was a good person. He was. “I had a lot of friends.”
Peat, who found himself homeless after leaving the sport, has attracted much attention for this detail in the United States and also by his worrying state of health.
After retiring in 2007, he even needed rehabilitation facing their drug addiction and mental health issues.
