The León City Council awarded this Friday the title of Adopted son of the city of Eduardo Dias Pereira, consul of Portugal between 1990 and 2020.

The event, which took place in the plenary hall of the San Marcelo City Hall, was chaired by the mayor, José Antonio Diez, who reviewed Dias’ merits for receiving such a distinction and praised the ties that unite the city of León with the neighboring country of Portugal.

“Our winner can attest to all the links that unite our two cities and which were the central axis of his work for decades, those in which, as consul in our city, he was responsible for facilitating the lives of the Portuguese residents of our region and, also, the economic, professional and sentimental ties that were established. “They opened in the opposite direction but with the same path,” said the mayor.

Until his retirement in 2020, Eduardo Dias was Consul of Portugal in a demarcation that includes León, Asturias, Palencia, Valladolid and Zamora, in which he carried out “commendable work in helping the community of Portuguese residents in our city at the same time, he worked, always in collaboration with institutions and entities, in the dissemination of Portuguese and Leonese culture, as well as in the creation of links between the two regions. This is stated in the file of award of the title he received today.
