Fortune tellers of the new century: “Psychologists” or charlatans?

Kubra Maharramova writes…

It’s no secret that most of our people like fortune tellers. Even the late Akhundov used this trick in his work to achieve a dramatic solution to the play. The ladies of the wealthy house begged the dervish not to let their children go to Paris and paid them to “blow up” Paris. Because the young man would be held captive by the Farang beauties and would leave his father’s home forever. As a result, Paris “explodes” and no one goes to Paris.

This “custom”, the tradition of going to a fortune teller, still exists today. It is sometimes leaked to the media that even elite people occasionally go to fortune tellers and are deceived by fortune tellers.

As if this were not enough, we are also witnessing the disputes between these people and the fortune tellers. Either way, they give the money to a fortune teller or a “psychologist”…

If you look, fortune tellers and some “psychologists” have a lot in common. In the past, people went to a fortune teller to tell them about their problems, to be sad, to comfort them, “everything will be fine”, nowadays some “psychologists” fulfill this role. It is completely legal.

Recently, going to a psychologist is at the top of the global trend. The most interesting thing is that they force humanity to do it by all possible means. One of the main influences on the subconscious is social networks and the media. When you turn on the iron like this, someone says: “go to a psychologist to heal yourself and get rid of the traumas.”

Let’s put a barrier here. We are not talking about professional psychiatrists and psychologists with medical training.

First of all, let’s define the difference between these two.

A psychiatrist is a doctor (with complete medical training) who diagnoses and treats mental illnesses. The specialist works with behavioral disorders that arise against the background of mental disorders, including severe cases when a person poses a danger to himself and others.

In what cases does it help?

Phobias, paranoia, vigilance, hallucinations, chronic insomnia, suicidality, self-harm, psychosis, increased anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, anorexia, bulimia, compulsive overeating, selective restrictive eating disorder, bipolar disorders, depression, mood disorder personality, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity disorder, etc.

That is, if there are any of these listed points, then it is necessary to go to a psychiatrist with a high level of medical knowledge, or send the patient to that place, and not to a fortune teller, fortune teller, mullah and psychologist.

Otherwise, going door to door, walking around homes and consoling yourself and your loved ones because my children and parents have paid taxes will not end well at all.

Such a serious psychological condition is determined by a psychiatrist and timely treatment has a positive effect.

Likewise, heart, kidney, lung, etc. as a doctor who treats organ pathology.

By the way, VERY IMPORTANT NOTE! The psychologist cannot determine the pharmacological treatment! That is, he cannot prescribe medicine to anyone because he has no medical education.

Now let’s go to the psychologist. Who is a psychologist and what does he do?

A psychologist may not have medical education. They can usually start working after completing a two-year bachelor’s and master’s degree. A psychologist plays more of a counseling role. For example, spouses, children, elderly relatives, etc. In relationships, a psychotherapist performs psychological work in the format of a session. Psychologists carry out their treatment by talking. Let me emphasize again that a psychologist is not a DOCTOR.

All cases are reflected in the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Psychological Assistance”. You can read it if you want.

Now we come to the most important point: the trend in the field of psychology that has recently become popular in Azerbaijan creates an opportunity for some people to earn easy money.

“Often, people who pursue material interests and take 2 or 3 courses call themselves psychologists. Of course, this is a very wrong idea. Psychology is a very delicate science. Psychologists deal with the soul, the heart and the psychology of a person.” , – these words belong to the chief psychiatrist of Azerbaijan, head of the Department of Psychiatry of the Medical University, doctor of medical sciences, professor Geray Garaybeyli.

That is, be careful, go to qualified professionals.

A large number of pseudopsychologists have appeared on social networks lately, and as soon as you ask for their diplomas, they will be put on the “blacklist”.

At this moment the question arises: who or what institution allows these people to operate?

According to the information I received from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry is responsible only for doctors – psychiatrists.

So who is responsible for the “psychologists” who have completed two or three courses and are engaged in activities? What organization authorizes them to operate?

We do not have complete information on this yet.

But we must understand that “traumas”, etc., is the trend of the last period. Problems have become a basic tool for “psychologists” (intentionally written in quotes).

A client who pays from session to session cannot free himself from “trauma” and pays for each session. The average statistical figure is 100 to 150 AZN. There are even more expensive ones: 200 AZN sessions. Can you imagine what money circulates through the media?

The question arises: who sets these prices? At what rate and are taxes paid?

The most interesting thing is that no one receives reports from uneducated and uneducated “psychologists” that the treatment is not effective. It is an abstract service. A person can visit a “psychologist” to treat some “tarvma” throughout the year.

For example, if the dentist did not perform the treatment correctly, if the tooth hurts after the treatment, the patient goes and grabs the doctor by the collar to redo the treatment or return the money. If the treatment prescribed by the nutritionist does not work, the patient who does not lose weight has his work cut out for him.

How does a psychologist determine this? By no means. The “psychologist” can easily say that the patient was very bad when he came to me, but now he is much better.

In all cases, when you consult a psychologist, ask for their diploma first. If he blacklisted you, if he ignored you, blacklist him too. It seems that these charlatans will continue to deceive many people and will become a “phenomenon” on social networks by investing in advertising. Like Mastali Shah, a dervish who for years wrote prayers for “lucky” girls…

In short, save your mind and your money!
