Pay tribute to Juan Valeraone of the most important historical and literary figures of the 19th century, coinciding with the bicentenary of his birth in Goat is the objective of international congress on his work and career which will be collected from October 16 to 18 in his hometown to the scholars and specialists of this illustrious Córdoba.
During the presentation of the event, the president of the Provincial Delegation of Córdoba, Salvador Fuentes, accompanied by the rector of the University of Córdoba, (UCO) Manuel Torralbo; the mayor of Cabra, Fernando Priego; the territorial delegate of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Authority, Eduardo Lucena, and Blas Sanchez, representing the academic management, among other authorities, emphasized that “with this congress we settle a debt that we owed to Juan Varela.”
For his part, the mayor of Cabra, Fernando Priego, an institution that, together with the UCO and the Complutense of Madrid, defends the organization, declared that Varela “is one of the most illustrious figures of Córdoba in the last three centuries. He was much more than a novelist because he had a dimension intellectual, philosophical, political and human which transcends his work. It was moreover academic and diplomatfrom Washington to Vienna or Brazil.
The congress will be attended by more than 40 teachers and specialistssix plenary lectures from leading Juan Varela scholars from the universities of Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Cordoba, Alicante and Amsterdam, 15 lectures from specialists in his work and the literature of the period and more than 20 communications in addition to a vast program of parallel activities with exhibitions and dramatized visits.
