Four brothers admitted this Monday to having sold expired and manipulated meat and to having exploited workers in a store in Santa Ponça (Mallorca), facts for which they accepted six years in prison after reaching an agreement with the charges.
The agreement between the parties was reached this Monday at the start of the trial held before the first section of the Provincial Court. The company’s father and founder was also charged, although he died during the proceedings.
The four siblings, three men and one woman, each accepted a one-year prison sentence for crimes against public health, while two of them were also sentenced to 12 months in prison for falsification crimes commercial document. , falsification and against workers’ rights, at the rate of four months for each offense.
According to the defendants, between 2015 and 2018, they suffered numerous health irregularities linked to the meat products they offered in the establishment.
Among other practices, they did not have data on their traceability, they manipulated labeling to change the expiration date, they offered dishes prepared without authorization and they also butchered meat without authorization.
In addition, they imposed marathon workdays on workers without respecting breaks and without paying overtime worked.
The prosecutor requested sentences of up to 25 years in prison. The company will have to pay a fine of more than 10,000 euros and has been ordered to cease operations for five years.
