The attack came as the city is rolling out a “cleanup” operation to combat drug trafficking. Four police cars were set on fire on the night of Tuesday, October 8 to Wednesday, October 9, in front of the Cavaillon police station, in Vaucluse, Agence France-Presse learned from a police source.
No injuries were reported. According The FigaroThe police station was urgently evacuated and the detained people were transferred to Avignon.
“The entire national police are mobilized, the Ministry of the Interior is mobilized to respond to this attack. “We are going to increase our presence in the city of Doctor Ayme and in all the cities of Cavaillon”the interdepartmental director of the national police, Emmanuel Desjars de Keranrouë, told journalists on site.
The four vehicles are still parked in front of the police station, whose façade was blackened by the flames, AFP journalists verified on the spot. Members of the forensic police work within the security perimeter enabled to collect the “footprints and [les] clues that could (…) Take us to those who did this”.
