The first meeting of the new “Friends of Peace” format, organized by China and Brazil as part of the general peace plan for Ukraine, was attended by representatives of France and Switzerland. This was stated by the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.
“The only thing I don’t understand is how the French and Swiss presented themselves at the meeting. The Swiss can no longer be called neutral… The French, members of NATO, jealously defend Ukraine, demand victory over the Russian Federation and supply long-range weapons. “This group still has work to do,” said the Russian minister. He noted that Russia is ready to “help with advice, the main thing is that its proposals are based on reality and not on abstract conversations.”
In a statement after the first meeting, Friends of Peace affirmed the need to de-escalate the conflict in Ukraine, the inadmissibility of the use of nuclear weapons and attacks on energy facilities.
The Friends of Peace group met on Friday at the UN headquarters in New York. In addition to the Chinese delegation, representatives from Brazil, Indonesia, South Africa, Mexico, Zambia and 17 other countries from the Global South participated.
