Lieutenant General of the Army Francisco José Gan Pampols will assume the vice-presidency of the Valencian government for economic and social recovery after the passage of DANA. It has only been a few days since the Valencian President announced the creation of this new figure, created to centralize all the actions of the Consell aimed at the recovery and economic and social normalization of the province of Valencia after the flood of October 29.

For this position, Mazón chose Francisco José Gan Pampols, a high-ranking military officer with extensive experience in peace missions in Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan.

Already retired because of having reached the regulatory age, Francisco José Gan Pampols (Figueras, 1958) He entered the General Military Academy (Zaragoza) in 1975 and progressed in his military career until being appointed lieutenant general in 2016.

Different positions of responsibility

His responsibilities in the military field include, among others, his appointment in 2009 as director of the General Military Academy, a position he held until March 2013, when he was appointed advisor to the 2nd head of state -major of the army. He remained there until May of the same year, when he was appointed director of the Armed Forces Intelligence Center, and in December 2016 he was promoted to lieutenant general, a position he held until May 2017, when he was appointed general-in-chief of the army. Peace missions in Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan

His long career includes numerous peacekeeping operations and missions in different countries. In 1995 he participated as head of operations of AGT ‘Aragon’ to the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In 1996, he was chief of operations of SPABRI I as a NATO member in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the years 2000-2001, he became chief of operational staff of the Western Multinational Brigade in Kosovo and in 2007, he was appointed leader of the provincial reconstruction team in Quala e Naw (Afghanistan).

Various decorations

A graduate in political science and sociology from UNED and honorary doctor from the Catholic University of Valencia, Gan Pampols is also a member of the Círculo Cívico de Opinión.

Throughout his career, he received several civil and military decorations, including the Grand Cross of Military Meritthe Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Civil Guard and the Royal and Military Order of San Hermenegildo, as well as ten other white crosses for military merit.

From now on, as vice-president for economic and social recovery after the passage of DANA, he will be responsible, among other functions, for designing a recovery plan and coordinating reconstruction efforts in affected areas. He will therefore chair the Interministerial Commission responsible for this issue and will have to develop a protection plan to deal with possible natural disasters which present risks for the population.
