A freight train derailed as a result of an explosion on the railway tracks in the Belgorod region, on the Volokonovka – Novy Oskol section. According to the Telegram channel Baza, the emergency occurred yesterday evening, September 10.
According to sources, a freight train travelling from Bataysk to Stary Oskol collided with an explosive device placed under the track. As a result of the explosion, an electric locomotive and about 10 empty carriages left the tracks (there were 58 in the train).
According to preliminary information, there were no casualties. Law enforcement officers and sappers are working at the scene.
Due to the emergency, several trains were cancelled. In addition, several passenger trains were sent to avoid this section of the tracks, Baza explains.
Special services officers are working on the scene. They are now examining the railway track for other improvised explosive devices.
The Investigative Committee opened a case under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (terrorist act causing significant material damage).
