French security forces killed another person in New Caledonia

The death toll from unrest in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory in the Pacific Ocean, has reached 12.

Another protester was reportedly killed by police officers.

“During the operation of the French security forces in New Caledonia, one person died on the night of Wednesday to Thursday. Thus, the number of dead in the four months of unrest in the Pacific region of France has reached 12,” it was reported.

The agency said the incident took place during a clash between police and protesters in the town of Saint-Louis, near Noumea, the administrative centre of the region. According to the report, the police are still searching for ten more protesters.

It should be noted that Parisians are protesting against the amendment to the Constitution which provides for the right to vote to people who have lived in New Caledonia for more than 10 years to participate in local elections.
